System is MOSS 2007. User 1 and User 2 have Office 2010 installed on their desktop.
User 1 shares admin role with another staff member (User 2) for some files in a folder of a doc library.
She has full control on the files as does User 2.
However, User 1 only has limited control for the rest of the site, while User 2 has full control within the document library.
The folder has 3 .xls files, and 1 .xlsx file. User 1 is able to open the .xls files without a problem. When User 1 clicks on the title of the .xlsx file to open it, she gets the message:
You do not have permissions to open this file on Excel Services.
Make sure that the file is in an Excel Services trusted location and that you have access to the file.
However, if User 1 clicks right on the name of the file, and selects "Edit in Microsoft Office Excel" she is able to edit the file.
If User 2 clicks on the title, she is able to edit the file with no errors or no need to use the context menu.
When I grant User 1 full control on the document library, the access denied message goes away.
Why is it necessary to grant User 1 full control on the entire library before MOSS -> Excel 2010 allows the user to open the file via the title?
Shouldn't having full control permissions on the .xlsx file be sufficient?
