We are implementing SharePoint 2013 Enterprise and using SQL 2012 Standard as the backend.
I am wondering what kind of BI possibilities are still available to us since we don't have SQL Business Intelligence or Enterprise edition.
We do have Excel 2013 with the PowerView addin.
Can we still take advantage of Excel Services to power PowerView and PowerPivot? Can Excel Services run a PowerPivot workbook in the browser? So far I haven't been able to get that working. Whenever I load the workbook in Excel Services the PowerView comes up with a big red X through it.
Can we still take advantage of PowerPivot libraries? Can they be scheduled for automatic refresh?
I've actually installed the PowerPivot for SharePoint msi on our SharePoint front end, but I'm not sure that's it's going to do anything for me without being able to install an instance of "Reporting Services SharePoint Mode Report Server for PowerView" on our SQL Server.
I've read pretty much every TechNet article out there, but most of them don't specify which version of SQL 2012 you need to be running in order to take advantage of each feature. This is the best I could find:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx#PowerPivot
But even that is pretty vague.
