Sharepoint calendar--Outlook calendar latency

We have recently migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013 and SharePoint Foundation 203 in a new Windows Server 2012 environment. I migrated a shared calendar in a public folder on the old 2003 Exchange to a SharePoint Calendar and had my users connect it to their Outlook. It works OK, but my users are complaining about the latency. They were used to having updates to the calendar made by one user being available to the rest of the users almost immediately. Now it seems that if a user adds an event to the calendar via Outlook it does not get posted to SharePoint until that user does a send/receive, and other users do not see the update until they also do a send/receive on the shared list. It seems that even someone viewing the calendar directly in SharePoint does not see the update until the page is refreshed.

Is there a way to eliminate the need for everyone to do manual send\receives? The update does not have to be instantaneous, but as things stand my users are finding the calendar to be almost unusable.
