Adding a link to an attachment rather than the file itself

Is there a way to have an InfoPath form allow the user to attach a link to a document rather than the document itself?  The users we have filling out the form are attaching multiple documents that are currently saved elsewhere.  Now we have multiple copies of documents floating around.  The documents are attached because the shipper using the files have to print them out eventually.  I was wondering if there was a method for them using the attach function but it only provides the link to where the file is rather than attaching the document itself.  Now the shipper simply clicks on the link and retrieves the file for printing.
