Problem with file name length

I'm having a problem that appears to be with file name length. I'm not sure what version of sharepoint I'm using. If someone can tell me how to check what the sharepoint version is, I will check. I've created a workspace and uploaded files into it. Most of the files are photos and PDF. I'm synchronizing the workspace on my laptop, which is running windows 10. Almost all of the files synch properly with a green checkmark. A few of them are not synchronizing properly. For these files, if I try to open them, e.g., with Adobe reader, a dialog box opens, saying, "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." I can right click on the document and copy it to the desktop, where it opens properly. I tried re-uploading these files and it made no difference. I also tried resynchronizing the entire folder and that also made no difference. I tried copying the file from my desktop into the File Explorer window, where I found what seems to be the cause. A dialog box opened, saying, "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path."

This problem seems to be a bug. The file names on the sharepoint are not mangled. The file names in that are on my laptop are also not mangled, so there doesn't seem to be any reason why this error should be occurring. It's not practical for me to truncate the file names. Is there a fix for this problem?
