Configure DNS for Apps in SharePoint 2013

I am reading this article in order to learn how to setup an infrastructure where people can write apps

However the problem is that my company does not use Microsoft DNS. We use something called Lucent Bind 9 DNS.

Can we also use apps? or does the apps infra necessarily require microsoft DNS?

Is there any guideance and documentation for non microsoft DNS based organizations?
