I am looking at setting up Sharepoint 2013 but, unfortunately, official licensing info is hard to find. For example, the following link provides virtually no information on licensing:

My question: Is the server software licensed per instance or per host/physical server?
If I have a physical server with 48 GB RAM and two 8-Core CPUs, I can install a SharePoint server performing all roles in conjunction with a separate SQL server...
If I virtualize that same server, can I create two or more instances of SharePoint to separate their logical functions (I.e. web server instance vs indexing server instance vs app server instance)?
It seems to me that nobody has addressed this anywhere and that there should be a difference between virtual instances of SharePoint versus physical server instances.
Please, tell me it is licensed per physical host!
