site collection database

As i know  we can use multiple Database use into Web application . here we have one confusion if i have create a web application and Site Collection and after we will create another database for those database via Central admin (manage database) .
After this process . we will go for create Site Collection . but  those Site Collection have attached Default database. ?
What is uses of another new database . can we change it site collection database.
