SharePoint 2013 - Branding Best Practice - Design Elements to Avoid

Hello Community,

I am starting out on a new SharePoint 2013 Branding project and I am trying to determine what are the design pitfalls to avoid if I want the design to remain easy to implement.  For example, avoid fixed width designs, or avoid moving the search control.  Has anyone done this before and if so can you provide me a good set of best practice branding examples?
