Disappearing Search Box for Lists

O365, upgraded (SP 2013).

I have a bunch of lists but when I create new views, the search box for that list is no longer available.  How do I get it back?  I want users to be able to search within that list alone and creating a whole new page seems like the wrong way to do it.
