Content type 'XYZ" cannot be published to this site because feature 'ABC' is not enabled.

Hi All,

This is a question which I feel is never answered convincingly.

I have a content type hub and deploy content types using features. If yes, I get this error:

Content type 'XYZ" cannot be published to this site because feature 'ABC' is not enabled.

For this problem the suggested answers that I got from the forums are:

  1. Deploy the same feature to all the receiving site collection (This I feel is not all a convincing answer from my point of view).
  2. Set Inhertis="TRUE" (What if I don't need the Title field?)
  3. Publishing feature is enabled on the content type hub site collection. (What if my content type is dependant on the Publishing features?

Each answer suggested are not actually the Answers from my point of view.

Please I would ask Microsoft/Any gurus to explain in a clear way as:

  1. Is activating the feature (which deploys content type) on all the site collections are required?
  2. If yes, why?
  3. Otherwise, what's the best way to deploy content types to the content type hub and push those CTs to all the site collection? given the fact that we are deploying the content types programmatically (using features) and we are not creating the CTs manually in the Hub.

This is there is 2010 and even in 2013. Hence, I would assume there is either a reason to it or fundamentally something is not quiet right.

Thanks.

Regards, Jagan
