Skydrive library available if mysite not created?

We have a SP2013 local farm with a portal site and separate mysite. Everything is working fine, here's the wrench in the mix:

With thousands of users, we do not want the "Skydrive link" to point to the local farm document libraries. Instead we would like to utilize the document libraries in Office 365...

We can modify the link URL to point to our Office 365 mysite document library but, will these libraries be available if a user has never logged into the Office 365 mysite (i.e. hasn't initialised the site yet)?

If not, is there a PowerShell command I can run to initialise all these libraries in the cloud?
