Content Types

We are developing a customer portal for customers to view test results. Each customer will have their own subsite. I want to setup content types for students and tests, but it's hard for me to move from a database mindset to a content type/list mindset. My concern is how to best utilize the Title column on lists since it is tied to:

1. Linking to view the item in a list
2. Lookup field, linking to the master list
3. The layout of mobile

I assume the following approach:

1. Setup content type for students (title, studentID, first name, last name)
2. Setup the list for students and utilize that content type. Rename title to Student Name.
3. Setup content type for tests (title, student - lookup to students, test date, score, grade)
4. Setup the list for tests using that content type. Rename title to TestID.

My goal is to build a relationship between the two columns, allow the user to click on the student name when viewing a test to view the students profile, utilize the title for student and test for the mobile view.

Is this the right approach?
