Getting rid of the .aspx on content query lists which contain Link to a Document files...?

I like to use Content Queries rather than simply adding a document library to a page as a web part because the content query allows for one to link the title instead of the filename, resulting in much neater, more appealing web pages.  Unfortunately, if the document is off site and one uses Link to a Document, there is no Title field to populate and the Name field ends up being displayed instead.  The name field invariably has a .aspx at the end.  Here's an example:

Annoying .aspx shows up in Content Query containing Link to a Document files.

If I could add the Title column to the link to a document doc type, this would be possible, but when I go into Link to a Document under one of my libraries where I want to use Link to a Document and click Add from existing site or list columns, Title isn’t an option.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
