Hi!
When I try to generate Thumbnails for my PowerView library in SharePoint 2013, it fails with a Timeout Message in the GallerySnapshot.exe logs. In 2010, this was normally caused by the Loopback check security fix outlined in KBhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 however, this is disabled on this demo machine. Note the executable name has changed from 2010 where it used to be called GetSnapshot,.exe.
This feature comes as part of the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1 PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 Feature pack (located here -http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35577)
What else can I check that might be causing a timeout? Note that this library opens in the browser from the server running the PowerView service, and I do not have Office Web Apps installed (although I have applied the OWA settings fix using New-SPWOPISuppressionSetting–Extension “XLSX” -Action “view” for both XLSX and XLS). The thumbnails are working on some files but not all, and nothing has been done to change the data sources (single source, OLEDB provider, etc). Versioning is enabled on the library and the file has not changed since being deployed. Loopback has been disabled as well.
As the service account, I can log into the server and open the web page no problems. I can also execute the generate thumbnails process from the command line without any errors appearing in the cmd window or in the event log. I see the same message in the ULS logs (timeout), but nothing in the way of errors leading up to that (I may be missing the error in the ULS logs though, hard to tell).
Current Setup is SharePoint 2013, SQL 2012 with SP1 and CU2. Reporting Services is deployed on the SharePoint Server in Integrated mode and SQL server is on another server. I would love to hear anyone else's experience with this same issue, even if you have not yet got it resolved.
