Hello,
I am seeing a problem with shared documents not being able to be edited in the client application.
I created a new library to test in to make sure I was starting from a clean slate.
I am using 2 accounts (My Admin account which is a Site Collection Administrator, and my regular user account which has no access to the site collection)
I added a couple documents (xlsx and docx) using my Admin account to the library, I then "Shared" the documents (using the ellipsis-->Share-->Can Edit) to my regular account. (My regular account by default has ZERO access to the site)
Once I got the email saying that I have been shared a document, I clicked the link in the email and it opens the file in the browser. With my regular account the file opens fine in the browser and I am able to switch to edit mode in the browser. But when I click "Edit in Excel, or Edit in Word" the application opens and displays the document but immediately after I get prompted for a username and password over and over again. If I hit cancel in the authentication prompt I get an error saying: Unknown error trying to lock the file.
If I try to edit either of these files with my Admin Account I am able to do so in the browser or in the client application.
Questions:
- Should I be able to open a document for editing in the client application (Word & Excel) when I only have contribute permissions on the file and NO permissions on the library?
- Do you know why I am seeing this error: Unknown error trying to lock the file.
Thanks,
Chad
