All-Day Events from "My Calendar" Stretched in SharePoint 2013 Calendar Overlay

Rather than add my commentary to an existing “answered” issue, I’m opening a new issue related to this one:

httpx://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/83714da9-a138-41c1-befa-b4be3cb96d08/exchange-calendar-overlay-all-day-events-are-stretched?forum=sharepointgeneral

(Sorry I had to "unlink-ify" the url above as my account is too new to post links or pictures)

The above issue was left in a state where MS could not reproduce the issue (or may have been confused on exactly how to reproduce the issue), so I'm offering help on what I am experiencing to re-open the dialog as I am experiencing the same behavior.

The Issue:

All Day Calendar Overlay Events that are coming from “My Calendar” in Exchange do not appear correctly in the SharePoint Overlay calendar. They stretch across that entire day from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AM. Multi-day Events appear correctly.

All day events created in SharePoint appear correctly.

I can verify that I CAN reproduce this issue in multiple ways.  ( I apologize for the lack of images, but MS won't let me post them just yet)

My environment:

  • All servers in the mix are 2012 R2 Servers
  • SharePoint 2013 Server (on premise) – updated up to the November 2015 CU
  • Exchange 2013 Server (on premise)
  • Outlook 2013

Method 1:

  1. Create All Day event in Outlook.  Event appears correctly in Outlook.
  2. Open up the SharePoint Calendar with "My calendar" Overlay.

Method 2:

  1. Create all day event in SharePoint.  (with the “Make this an all-day activity. . .” box checked)
  2. In Calendars view in Outlook, I have my personal calendar view side by side with the SharePoint calendar.  Drag the event from the SharePoint calendar into the Outlook calendar.  It shows correctly in Outlook, at least
  3. Go back to the SharePoint Calendar (refresh) and the all-day item that was moved shows up twice. It shows up in the correct spot (where it was created originally) and then incorrectly as an item that was imported in from Outlook, stretched across the entire day.

This could actually be two issues as the event coming over from outlook is a duplicate and should possibly just be ignored, but I’m focusing on the stretching of the event in this issue alone.  If there is a configuration issue I am missing, please let me know.  This issue has steered many users from effectively using this calendar and simply requesting users to "stop putting all day events in their outlook calendars" would likely be immediately followed by a request that I stop coming in to work.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.
