O365 SharePoint Online Usage report. What exacltly is a hit in a usage report and does it differ from a hit that is recorded under popularity trends

Dear forum,

I have been viewing the excel spreadsheet generated when I click on the popularity trends link for a document in a document library.

What exactly is a 'hit'. Is this the same as recorded under a usage report? Under delve I am able to see how many times my file has been viewed. Are views in delve the same as a hit?
