Documents not saving to sharepoint

Hi all,

I have a client with intermittent issues where some users open a document in sharepoint using a link (from outlook for example) - the document opens, they edit it - hitting "save" multiple times and closing the editing application (both word, excel and acrobat reader XI have been reported) but the file in sharepoint isn't updated.

I am suspecting that the applications are saving to the temp sharepoint files folder on the local computer - but I have no idea why, and how to stop it.

The client has SharePoint 2013, office 2010 and acrobat reader XI version 11. they have roaming profiles, and use a mix of physical hardware and citrix for logging in.

On a slightly related note- on the same system the users sometimes get error messages that the file is locked (by them) and they are not able to save the file - but in those cases they do get a prompt when it happens. I am not sure if the two issues are related or not.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or troubleshooting steps.
